After Paris Saint-Germain defeated Montpellier, Sergio Ramos was had to intervene to separate fighting teammates Kylian Mbappe and Neymar in the team’s locker room.
During the game, Neymar refused to let Mbappe take PSG’s second penalty after the Frenchman had his first attempt saved, and the two attacking superstars argued about who should take penalties first in the team.
When Mbappe tried and failed to take the ball away from the Brazilian, who then stepped up and scored from the penalty spot, tensions among the team reemerged both on and off the field. In the second half, both players scored from open play.
Even though Christophe Galtier’s team won 5-2, the rivalry between the two stars persisted. Le Parisien reports that the argument between the two carried over into the locker room, when veteran defender Ramos had to step in to mediate.
It comes amid news that Lionel Messi and Kylian Mbappe are allegedly at odds over Neymar’s future after the Frenchman allegedly voiced worries about the Brazilian’s lack of discipline and love of Paris nightlife.
The status of Neymar at the club is said to be a source of competition between the two superstars at Parc des Princes, and numerous stories from last season described the severity of the French dressing room rift. The lack of discipline and effective leadership in the PSG dressing room has been a recurring problem in recent years.
