Just one month remains until Nate Diaz’s upcoming bout, which may be his last in the UFC. The popular and divisive former lightweight championship challenger will face the advancing undefeated welterweight contender Khamzat Chimaev in his final fight under his current contract. Nowadays, there aren’t many pay-per-view main events that aren’t title fights, but UFC 279 in Las Vegas is one of them. Chimaev will be participating in his first five-round tournament of his career, while Diaz has much more relevant experience. Chimaev is a huge favorite to defeat Diaz and stop him, something that few people have managed to do.
What is left of UFC 279? It doesn’t feel like a pay-per-view, let’s be honest. Irene Aldana vs. Macy Chiasson is perhaps the next-biggest bout we are aware of for this show, and this is only speaking in terms of title relevance since no co-main has been confirmed. I am aware that Jake Collier vs. Chris ‘Huggy Bear’ Barnett, whether it be the co-main event or the initial preliminary round, is appointment watching.
Keeping in mind that things occasionally get switched around, these are all the fights that have been either officially confirmed or associated with this event for September 10.
